About Sylvester's Preserve

Sylvester's Preserve is a 208-acre natural area located in northwest Harris County, Texas. It features a mix of bottomland hardwood forests, wetlands, and upland forest habitats, which support a wide variety of wildlife, including migratory birds and native mammals. The preserve was established to protect the high-quality natural communities representative of East Texas and provide a green oasis amid the rapidly urbanizing Houston metropolitan area. It includes boardwalk trails and interpretive signage designed to educate visitors about local ecology and conservation efforts. The preserve is particularly popular among birdwatchers, with over 240 species recorded on site, including several rare and declining bird populations. Visitors also enjoy hiking, photography, and nature study in a quiet environment away from city life. Its serene forested trails wind through mature trees, offering seasonal wildflower blooms and native plant communities. Sylvester's Preserve is managed by the Natchez Trace Audubon Society, which supports habitat restoration and environmental education programs. The area is well suited for families, casual hikers, and wildlife enthusiasts who seek a natural setting with easy access to Houston.
